Week of 6/3/2018
Wow! We're into June! Students in block 2 have a test on Tuesday, they were given a study guide to work on that will be due the day of the assessment.
Students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 are moving forward working on transformations and more specifically rotations this week.
Week of 5/28/2018
Students in block 2 are getting into the quadratic equation and the parts needed to be able to graph a parabola.
Students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 are working on identifying and performing transformations of figures.
Because this is a short week there is no requirement for ALEKs this week.
Week of 5/21/2018
This week students in block 2 are going to be continuing to factor polynomials and move into the quadratic equation. Students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 will be introduced and begin working on transformations of shapes.
All students should work to complete at least 10 topics this week.
Week of 5/14/2018
This week students in block 2 will continue working with polynomials. We will have a quiz at the end of the week to check our progress on this standard. Students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 will continue working with the volume standards we started last week.
All students should work towards 10 ALEKs topics this week.
Week of 5/7/2018
This week we are starting our new unit on volume in blocks 3, 5, and 6. Students will also have the opportunity to make up their test over the function standards that they took this past week.
Students in block 2 will spend the beginning of the week working on exponential functions and then we will be moving into the quadratic equation and quadratic functions.
All students should work on completing 10 ALEKs topics by Friday.
Week of 4/30/2018
This week we are going to continue focusing on the standards we covered last week in our classes. In block 2 we are working on Exponential Functions. In blocks 3, 5, and 6 we are wrapping up a unit on Analyzing and Comparing Functions.
All classes will have a quiz at some point near the end of the week over their standards.
All students should work on completing 10 ALEKs topics by Friday.
Week of 4/8/2018
In blocks 3, 5, and 6 this week we will continue our work with functions and have a quiz over them on Wednesday this week.
In block 2 we are wrapping up our systems of inequalities unit and students will be quizzed on the standards on Wednesday.
Students have been doing weekly responsibility, respect, and perseverance self-assessments so check in with your student to see how they think they are doing on their HOWLs.
Because this is a short week there will not be an ALEKs check-in at the end of the week.
Week of 4/1/2018
This week students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 are going to start our functions unit!! Hopefully students will see the connection to our prior expressions and equations units where they had to solve equations.
Students in block 2 are going to be adding onto our systems of equations unit by now looking at systems of inequalities. This unit is going to be very similar to systems of linear equations so students will be provided with opportunities to exceed the standards.
All students are encouraged to work on at least 10 ALEKs topics this week to get a meets in their perseverance howl for the week.
Week of 3/25/2018
After a week of testing and me being absent for the week, we will wrap up the pythagorean theorem at the beginning of the week and move into our functions unit after that.
Students in block 2 will continue work with systems of equations and the different ways to solve them.
All students will be responsibile for 10 topics on ALEKs this week.
Week of 3/12/2018
We will continue working with the pythagorean theorem in blocks 3, 5, and 6. Daily check-ins will be put towards their overall standard assessment score.
In block 2 we will be working on different ways to solve systems of equations other than just graphing them. Depending on snow days this week we will be having a check-in quiz over solving systems on Friday.
All Students need to work to complete at least 10 ALEKs topics this week.
Week of 3/5/2018
This week in blocks 3, 5, and 6 we are starting a unit on the pythagorean theorem. Students will get their quizzes back that they took on 3/2 and can make corrections to show their understanding of the expressions and equations standard.
In block 2 we are going to be starting our new unit on systems of equations. Students will also be getting their quizzes from 3/2 back this week and can work on corrections throughout the week.
There will not be a requirement for ALEKs this week because we have a shortened week so we will be working with khan academy instead this week.
Week of 2/26/18
We are going to be getting back to work with solving one variable equations in blocks 3, 5, and 6 trying to see when certain equations represent one solution, infinitely many solutions or no solutions at all.
In block 2 we are going to take our work with compound inequalities and move from just graphing on a number line to now we are going to be graphing inequalities on a coordinate plane.
All students need to complete 10 topics on ALEKs for the week!
Week of 2/12/18
This week before vacation we will be working on solving linear equations for one variable in blocks 3, 5, and 6. This is to help us work towards meeting the expressions and equations standard. In block 2 we are going to work on solving linear inequalities.
For this final week before vacation students need to complete 10 ALEKs topics.
Week of 2/5/18
This week we are going to take a look at the blood drive through numbers and statistics. This will wrap up our statistics unit and we will be getting back into our expressions and equations unit next week by solving linear equations.
Students should work to complete 10 ALEKs topics this week.
Week of 1/28/18
This week we are going to continue working with interpreting bivariate data. Students will be working to construct and interpret two-way tables. They will have a quiz over this standard at the end of the week.
All students should work to complete at least 10 topics on ALEKs.
Week of 1/22/18
We will be working to finish constructing our own scatter plots this week and trying to draw in a line of best fit to represent the data. Once we have wrapped that up we are going to move into two-way tables.
Students should complete 10 topics on ALEKs.
Week of 1/15/18
This week all classes are starting their units on statistics. We are going to be doing some lessons on scatter plots, creating and analyzing them. This will be getting us prepared for our unit related to our blood drive unit.
This week students should do at least 10 ALEKs topics.
Week of 1/8/18
What a way to come back from break! Now that we have a full week of school the students will be getting right back into linear equations so that we can wrap this unit up end of this week/beginning of next. We will be moving onto a statistics unit that connects to the blood drive that the students will be helping with in February.
This week all students need to complete at least 10 topics on ALEKS.
Week of 12/18
This week in block 2 we are working on the many ways to write linear equations (standard form, slope-intercept form, and point-slope form). We will have a check-in quiz next Wednesday on these three things. In Blocks 3, 5, and 6 we will be working on writing and graphing linear equations in slope-intercept form. The students in these three classes will also have a check-in on Wednesday.
The students will need to complete at least 10 topics this week before vacation.
Week of 12/11
This week all students are going to have a quiz on Tuesday over the standards we have been covering. After that we will continue working towards finishing chapter 3 and starting chapter 4 in block 2, and working on graphing linear equations in blocks 3, 5, and 6.
All students should complete at least 10 topics on ALEKs this week.
Week of 12/4
This week to start trimester two we are working on Linear Functions in block 2. For Blocks 3, 5, and 6 we are working on finding the slope of lines and similar triangles.
All students should complete 10 topics for ALEKs this week.
Week of 11/27
This week students in block 2 are wrapping up chapter 2 on linear equations and we are going to have an assessment over that content on Wednesday. Students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 are going to move from solving for missing parts of proportional relationships to now graphing them. We will have a check-in quiz at the end of the week to see how we are in terms of meeting the standard.
All students should work to complete 10 topics on ALEKs this week!
Monday 11/20 and Tuesday 11/21
With just two days of school for the week we are going to spend the time doing activities around the two units both classes are working on. For blocks 3, 5, and 6 we will be doing activities around proportional relationships. For block 2 we are going to wrap up chapter 2 by doing some activities around solving equations and percent of change.
For any students who have decided to do the test corrections, they need to be turned in by Tuesday 11/21.
There will be no ALEKs requirement this week because students will not be allowed to bring their computers home during the vacation.
Week of 11/13
Students did a great job giving their best effort last week taking the cumulative test on Wednesday. Now all classes are starting new units. For block 2 students are working in the algebra textbook on Linear Equations (chapter 2). For students in blocks 3, 5, and 6 we are working on a new expressions and equations unit around understanding the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.
ALL Students need to complete at least 10 topics of ALEKs this week. This will be checked on Monday next week giving students the weekend to also complete the topics.
Week of 11/6
This week we are going to have the cumulative test that we were supposed to have last week but could not because of the power outage. Students will be taking this test as exit slips over the three days that we will be having class this week. If they miss a class period they can make it up during a supported study or after school.
Students should work to complete atleast 10 topics on ALEKs this week.
Week of 10/30
We are going to be having a cumulative test next week over the standards we have covered so far this year. We will continue to also work on our standards about working with rational integers.
For ALEKS this week students are expected to complete at least 10 topics!
Week of 10/23
During our conferences week we are going to work on operations with numbers written in scientific notation. Students are doing a great job working on this challenging objective. Students will have a formative assessment over the first two objective of scientific notation on writing numbers in standard form or scientific notation and comparing numbers written in different forms.
This week students are expected to complete 15 topics on ALEKs.
Week of 10/16
This week we are continuing working on our expressions and equations unit. We are into our third long-term learning target about powers of 10 and scientific notation. Although we are moving onto the next long term learning target we will continue to practice with the exponent rules and solving for x as a whole number or simplified radical expression.
With this week being a full week I am asking that the students complete 15 topics on ALEKs between class time, supported study and at home.
Week of 10/9
This week we will continue our work on expressions and equations. Students will be getting their first assessment back on this standard and will have the opportunity to reassess at the end of the week.
During class time and supported study I am asking that students complete at least 15 topics this week on ALEKs.
Week of 10/2
This week we will be working on our new unit about expressions and equations. Our first learning target is going to be about works with radicals and integer exponents.
Students are being asked to complete at least 15 topics this week on ALEKs.
Week of 9/24
This week we will be working on finishing our standards related to the real number system. We will be working on determining two whole numbers that non-perfect square roots are in between and then we will be approximating non-perfect square roots to the tenths place.
All students will be having an assessment this week over the first few learning targets we have completed so far this year.
Week of 9/18
We have finished our NWEA assessment and all of the students worked so hard and did a great job doing their best effort! This week we are going to get started with our unit on the Real Number System talking about rational and irrational numbers. You can expect your student to be coming home with homework throughout this week.
There is not an ALEKs requirement for the week but we will be working on it in class occasionally along with some work in khan academy.

Week of 9/11
This week we will be taking our NWEA assessment on Monday and Tuesday. Once we have finished that assessment we are going to be starting our first unit about the real number system
Hello! And Welcome to 8th Grade Math for Agamenticus! We are going to be going over classroom norms and expectations at the beginning of the week and once those have been established we will be jumping right into some math by doing the Week of Inspirational Math created by Jo Boaler!
