                                                                                                       With not much to do,

                                                                                                       Except to stay cool.

                                                                                                       Some'r much smarter.

                                                                                                       Summer reading.

Lyman Moore Eighth Grade Summer Reading Assignment

Your eighth grade English teachers challenge you to read three books this summer.

You may choose any three books in any genres, as long as they are appropriate for school. After reading all three, choose the one you enjoyed most, and complete the following assignment.

September “Tiny” Book Report For Acadia and Baxter 8

To conclude our summer and/or September reading, all 8th graders will be making a large bookmark using an 8x11” paper folded in half. This supports our goal to have you learn to write concisely and review skills learned in the 7th grade.

Reason: to inform others about your “free choice” book

Audience: classmates and new teacher

Format: A large bookmark that has an illustration, title, and author (front) and a paragraph that includes the main characters, setting, conflict, genre, and a recommendation (back).

Purpose: To provide the class with some ideas of new books to try

Criteria:

For an A -- One paragraph of 5-7 complete sentences that follows the format above and uses strong vocabulary. The recommendation suggests a particular audience that would appreciate the book. (Ex. -- If you enjoy a strong protagonist that is deeply developed, you would like this book. OR If you need a book with incredible action, suspense, and cliffhangers, you would like to read this book.) The final product is visually appealing (easy to read, colorful, and neat). You carefully edit. Your writing is original and not copied from another source.

You will need your completed writing assignment and a copy of your book in English class in September. Happy reading! Ms. Tevanian and Mrs. Brown
